Warehouse & Inventory Management

Warehouse Management and Inventory Management both work closely and Inventory management is subset of Warehouse management which helps the business to track the inventory of items/materials within and across the store, reduces the inventory cost, maximize the availability of spare parts. Whereas warehouse management is the process of controlling warehouse operations like organizing inventory, ordering and receiving stock, overseeing labor, tracking performance, and packing and shipping procedures.

Various methods are used in warehouse to update the inventory

  • Perpetual system – This system takes count of inventory continuously in real time. This required more labor cost and training. Mostly preferred by retailers.
  • Periodic System – The counting takes place at periodic intervals manually, Less cost .
  • Barcode System – This system updates inventory using barcode tools . No human intervention hence considers low risk method. However, placing all barcode scanner SKUs on each item will be tedious job.
  • RFID System – This system updates inventory counts using radio signal tags. This method also considered to be low risk of human errors. But installing and usage of this method is costly.

Inventory Management
